Vedic Yoga as the Foundation of Later Yoga Traditions – Dr David Frawley

A talk at the SAFIC Special Lecture Programme on Oct 7, 2017. Society House, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry

Speaking on a general basis on the Vedas, their philosophy and their symbolism, Dr. Frawley elaborated on the concept of the cosmic Vak Shakti that aids the evolution of humanity. He stated that the Veda cannot be separated from Yoga, and that there is no one specific technique to change one’s consciousness unless there is a Divine grace that enable one to do so and this is where bhakti (devotion) has such a great significance. With respect to the modern times, he spoke on how we tend to confuse intellectual knowledge with direct, cognitive knowledge, an understanding which reflects so clearly in the words of the Vedas. Dr Frawley extensively quoted Sri Aurobindo on the importance and greatness of Vedas as given in ‘The Secret of the Veda’.
